Keynote Presentations
“From Local Impact to Global Opportunity: Build Your Career in Oil & Gas—From the Other Perspective”
Delivered by Mr. Baraa Zubaidi, where Mr. Zubaidi shared practical insights and real-world experiences focused on the transition from university to professional life. His remarks targeted final-year students and recent graduates in science and engineering disciplines, urging them to prepare early by developing the skill sets demanded by the global private sector. He highlighted international academic and training opportunities available within Iraq that can significantly boost employability with leading international companies. Drawing on his experience, Mr. Zubaidi stressed the value of forward planning, technical competence, and adaptability in navigating global energy markets.

He walked students through a step‑by‑step process for mapping university coursework and research projects onto the competencies listed in international job postings, and outlined targeted training programs that can fast‑track entry into specialized technical roles. By sharing his CV highlights and interview preparation tips, he gave attendees concrete tools to refine their professional profiles and approach recruitment with confidence.
Reflection
In a post‑symposium message, Eng. Ahmad Hashim remarked:
“Our goal, Mr. Baraa and I, was to provide actionable guidance for recent graduates and students on the cusp of graduation—showing them how to build portfolios, pursue funding for postgraduate studies in prestigious universities worldwide, and secure roles with international energy firms. We were delighted by the enthusiasm and thoughtful questions from attendees.”
SPE Central Iraq Section looks forward to deepening this collaboration through upcoming hands‑on trainings, campus visits by industry experts, and mentorship programs. By maintaining an active presence at the University of Karkh of Science and other academic institutions, our section reaffirms its commitment to developing the technical competencies and professional networks of Iraq’s next generation of energy leaders.
